Gina Jarrin & Andy Keir - Screenwriters

Gina Jarrin & Andy Keir are a screenwriting team who also happen to be married to each other. In the Spring of 2020, when Covid-19 struck and New York City was in lockdown, they felt they weren’t spending enough time together in their apartment, so they decided to write a screenplay together. The result was the feature script Common Prayer, based on the 1977 novel A Book of Common Prayer by Joan Didion (whose husband, John Gregory Dunne was her screenwriting partner).

Since completing the screenplay in the Fall of 2020, Jarrin & Keir have decided that the epic quality of Didion’s novel deserves a more sprawling and complete retelling, so they are now seeking to expand their adaptation into a limited series for streaming.

Jarrin graduated from USC with a degree in journalism and embarked on a 20-year career in film public relations. While raising her children, she gravitated toward her lifelong calling as an actor, producer, writer and stand-up comedian. Adapting A Book of Common Prayer was personal for Jarrin — as a Latina and a mother. Of South American descent, Jarrin grew up in New York, Los Angeles, and Mexico City (during the 1970s). Her knowledge of that era in Latin American culture, music and humor was invaluable to the adaptation. She comes from a family embedded in Hispanic media: her father was a radio announcer in Ecuador, before moving to New York to run an advertising agency specializing in Latin America; and her uncle Jaime Jarrin recently retired after 60 years as the Spanish voice of the LA Dodgers.

Keir majored in Communications at Cornell before studying film at The New School. He has spent the last thirty years as an award-winning film editor, working on numerous features, television shows and an Oscar-nominated documentary. He has written several short films, and two television pilots, both of which made the short list at the Sundance Episodic Lab. He was also on the writing staff for HBO’s Here and Now.

With over 50 years of combined experience in entertainment, Jarrin & Keir have worked with — and learned from — some of the industry's finest writers and filmmakers, including Alan Ball, Jonathan Demme, Alan Rudolph, Moira Walley-Beckett, Jonathan Tropper, Campbell Scott, Bob Balaban, Lauren Morelli, Justin Theroux, Lisa Cholodenko and Greg Mottola.

Common Prayer is their first project as a writing team.
